A beautiful pair of antique dormeuse earrings dating to the 1910s–1920s, set with an estimated 1.10 carats of old mine cut diamonds in 18k gold and platinum.
The earrings retain their original French assay hallmarks, including the bearded man's mark for 18k gold and the owl mark for platinum. The bearded man's hallmark was used by French assay offices between 1913 and 1926, meaning these earrings were crafted either before or during that time period.These original hallmarks provide valuable evidence of the earrings' early 20th-century date.
Each earring suspends a substantial old mine cut diamond beneath a smaller diamond-set top. Unlike the uniform appearance of modern brilliant cuts, these diamonds have chunky, individually cut facets, visible open culets and the softer, less predictable sparkle that makes old mine cuts so distinctive.
The two principal diamonds measure approximately 4.9 mm in diameter with an estimated weight of 0.48–0.50 carat each. The total diamond weight is estimated at approximately 1.10 carats.
Elegant enough for bridal wear but compact enough for everyday use, this is an exceptionally wearable pair of antique diamond earrings with genuine character and presence.
