A finely preserved Victorian diamond ring, composed in the floral cluster form so closely associated with nineteenth-century jewellery.
At its centre sits an approximately 5 mm rose-cut diamond, encircled by a halo of smaller rose-cut diamonds and accompanied by further diamonds set along the shoulders. Together, the stones form a delicate flowerhead arrangement, with an estimated total diamond weight of approximately 0.64 carats.
Rose-cut diamonds belong to an earlier chapter in the history of diamond cutting. Rather than the deep pavilion and calculated light return of the modern brilliant cut, a rose cut has a flat base and a domed crown formed from triangular facets. Each stone was shaped individually, giving antique rose cuts their characteristic irregularity and soft, flickering light.
